Fubar - US


Fubar is the Internet's only online bar where the party never ends! This unique social networking site for users 18 and older is a virtual bar where members buy each other virtual drinks and engage in conversation. The currency is the "fubuck" earned through using the site, and registered members have the ability to buy a "Happy Hour" for everyone. Other features include file sharing and asking the community for opinions on different subjects. With 3,7 million registered members, Fubar also allows members to call one another anonymously.

Frühstückstreff - Germany


Frühstückstreff (breakfast meeting) is a social networking initiative that puts the true meaning of the word social into practice. Members in more than 50 cities in Europe and Australia meet regularly (usually once a month on Sundays) for breakfast or coffee, and share hobbies and special interests, such as sports, business, food and drink, flora and fauna, womens' topics, culture and lifestyle, love and relationship, mens' topics, job and career, and travel with other members of the community. The site's event calendar covers more than 900 Frühstückstreff events every year including movie nights, concert visits, hiking trips, bike and canoe tours. So far, the site has 15,000 registered members and a locations database of more than 10,000 potential event locations.

Friendster - Australia


Friendster is a social networking website that allows users to make new contacts, maintain existing contacts and share online content with other users. With functions such as dating, discovering new events, hobbies, bands, and sharing  photos, videos, comments and messages, the site has more than 115 million registered users and over 61 million unique visitors a month. Due to a constant injection of venture capital from numerous VC firms, Friendster continues to grow and evolve, offering features in the form of 40 different types of fan profiles, an open platform developer program in 9 different languages, mobile and text alerts in conjunction with major mobile operators around the globe, and a wallet and payments platform that enables users to physical and virtual micro-spending worldwide (pre-paid cards, mobile, online and credit card payments). It is remarkable that over 90% of the website's traffic comes from Asia.

Friends Reunited - UK


It started as a back bedroom internet start-up to exploit a UK market need to inquire about the status of old school friends. Within a year it reached 2.5 million members and kept on growing ever since, albeit at a declining rate. Friends Reunited is a tree of social networking sites (branching off to Genes Reunited and Dating) based on themes around searching of people at schools, universities, armed forces, workplaces, sports clubs and addresses. On the principle of user-generated content, registered members create profiles, share photos and videos, celebrate events and, in general, never lose touch with the past. With almost 4 million members currently, Friends Reunited has also incorporated getting in touch with old friends in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Fotolog is one of the oldest and largest online communities and social networking websites allowing users to express themselves with online photo diaries or photo blogs. Flixster - US


An online community for movie fans of all genres is Flixster. Almost 3 years old it is considered one of the largest movie sites on the web, combining social networking characteristics, such as profiles, friends, meeting people, fun and games, with movie ratings, reviews and user-generated content. Flixster has also been active on developing applications for several other social networking sites including Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and Orkut. With 2 billion movie ratings and over 15 million unique visitors, the site features its own application for Google and iPhone.

Flickr - US


An image and video hosting website, and one of the best photo management and sharing applications in the world, is Flickr. With more than 4 billion images uploaded so far, Flickr keeps evolving in a myriad ways along two axes of development: one, by helping users make their content available privately or publicly with photos and videos coming in and out of the system from the web, mobile devices, computers and software management tools, and two, by developing new ways of organizing all this content. In addition to these goals, Flickr also implemented social networking features with profiles, tag clouds, comments, groups, geotagging, turning it into one of the most popular online communities today.
